electronic ignition gas range does not start after being idle?
I have a Kitchen Aid gas range top with electronic ignition. If the range is unused for several hours or a day, it is very difficult to start. All igniters work, but the burner does not ignite. After it finally starts, every burner starts fine with the electonic ignition. It's like the gas has a hard time getting started, but once it begins, then everything is fine. I've tried starting with a butane lighter, but that also does not initially work. We have to turn the igniter on and off many times before the range finally starts. There does not appear to be a shortage of gas since once the first burner ignites, all burners cab easily be ignited and operate at full flame. Any suggestion or ideas?
For some reason it appears that when you first turn it on you are not getting enough gas for ignition or somehow you are getting air at first, which you could get because there will be air in the burner tube which is after the shut off valve. Any problem with gas pressure? When lit are all the burners burning high? Does this happen on all the burners or just one ? I thought the pilot port could be blocked and didn't ignite until the gas for the burner reached the spark did it ignite. There is only one igniter that ignites all the burners. When you turn it on, do you see a spark at all four burners? If the electrodes are positioned too far away from the burner you may get intermittent sparks. Make sure all four burners are sparking as soon as you turn it on. Have you asked the appliance dealer if this was a problem with this model, or know any body else with the same? Good Luck
